A Christmas Parade – BVI Style
The Long Bush Christmas Parade, a long-standing BVI Christmas tradition that had last been held in 2013, is now back! Slated to be take place on Christmas Day, December 25th, the event gets the entire community together for a parade of angels and elves, music and floats
The parade and accompanying festivities are organized by the Christmas in Long Bush Committee in collaboration with Fourth District Representative Luce Hodge-Smith. She said she is pleased that the parade is being revived, adding that it had been sorely missed by all over the past nine years.
The Christmas parade in Long Bush (Long Bush is located in Road Town), was a favorite holiday event with people from throughout Tortola from 2006 to 2013. In a radio interview, the parade coordinator, Josette Allen, said she was happy to relaunch the event.
We missed it after all these years and we just decided to form a committee and bring it back,” Ms Allen explained, adding that the idea is to bring it back as a community event.
More than just a parade, there will be food and drinks and live entertainment, donkey rides and a train ride, she said. Pole plaiting, a traditional activity at BVI fetes and celebrations, will be a prime feature. The parade will have DJs and CCT will be sponsoring a float.
The parade which will start at 11am, will go through Lower Estate, and return along Main Street. It will end at the Road Town Bandstand where there will be multiple live bands, and is where the activities for kids and adults will take place.
