2023 BVI Poker Run Rules the Waves
Each year power boaters compete for the winning hand at the BVI’s most popular power boating event – the BVI Poker Run. This year’s run is scheduled for May 28th.
The Leverick Bay Poker Run will take power vessels of all stripes from the small and sleek to high powered cigarette style boats on a fast-paced tour of the British Virgin Islands. The legendary BVI event attracts thousands of boating enthusiasts from throughout the BVI, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
As the organizers put it: “The Leverick Bay Poker Run is the most exciting and anticipated nautical event in the British Virgin Islands. Why? Because of the PEOPLE (over 2,000 of them), the BOATS (over 300 anticipated) and THE PRIZES, totaling over $20,000! Friends and families from all over the Caribbean and the U.S. unite for one unforgettable day.”
At the start of the race, participants are given a predetermined route to follow, along with a list of popular BVI ports of call where boats make a brief stop to collect a card. Once the route is completed and all cards collected, boats return to Leverick Bay Resort & Marina. Participants holding the best five-card poker hand are crowned as the Poker Run victors. Prizes given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place hands.
A significant portion of donations from the event’s sponsors – be it monetary, gifts or in-kind sponsorships – and a portion of the Poker Run participants’ entry fees, will be donated to a variety of charitable foundations on Virgin Gorda.
Past charitable recipients have included The Virgin Gorda Charitable Trust, VGROC and ARC. Over the past 18 years, the Poker Run’s sponsorships and donations donated over $155,000 US to charity.
The Poker Run is to be held on Sunday, May 28th 2023. Registration begins at 8am on the dock at Leverick Bay, or pre-register online to save time.
The run leaves Leverick Bay, North Sound, Virgin Gorda at 11am. All boats are to be back at Leverick Bay by 5pm.
The After Party gets underway at Leverick Bay at 5pm, with the Prize Giving Ceremony, the Mr. Nice Guy Fashion Show, Live DJ’s and cold drinks.
The Poker Run was founded by Nick Willis, a long-time manager of Leverick Bay Resort. Nick passed away in January and will be missed by the many who remember his boundless energy and enthusiasm for the Poker Run and everything Virgin Gorda.
